Dancing Skirt - The sensuous, flirtatious swish. Contracting, opening, pulling, pushing, grabbing, throwing, twisting, kicking, whipping, twirling ,freeing. The dance of your life can be  told using the expressive language of the skirt. Learn to express  your dance with the added dramatic flair and manipulation of skirt language. Discover a powerful and fun tool for performance. Tell your story of power, vulnerability, secrets, passion and longing. Free and enhance your dance with " skirt language".

Barbara www.thedancingspirit.com  will teach a one hr  class of  "Intro to skirt language" (15$) and a two hour class (22$) of  "skirt choreography". To feel the most comfortable with the skirt movement expressions, both classes are recommended

Dancing with the Left Side and the Right Side of the Brain -  This class examines the psychology of a dancer’s preferred dance style, and explores strategies to enhance improvisational and choregraphy technique. It will include steps, music suggestions, historical perspectives, as well as musicality, appropriate interpretation of instruments, and more.  Whether you prefer to improvise or dance to choreography this class will provide lots of ideas and enrichment

A Taste of Turkey-   In this class the participants will experience three genres of Turkish music and dance:  Modern Pop,  Turkish Arabesk and  Rom inspired social dancing.

In the Modern Pop dance, the dance steps and simple combos will be inspired by Turkish style Chiftitelly, a social “belly dance” style to modern music.

Turkish Arabesk,  usually considered listening music is full of passion and lyrical beauty incorporating Arabic styling with Turkish lyrics.  This genre of music is perfect for a soulful dance either with a prop or just with lots of feeling!

Turkish Rom dance is very unique and often misunderstood and misrepresented. Because we are only getting a “taste” of this style, we will learn some moves that would be found at parties or clubs.

Dance with Fire -  This workshop goes beyond dancing with candles and is quite different from poi spinning.  This interpretive dance style uses small flames in containers and involves balancing, creating designs and enhancing beautiful moves with light.  There are many substitutes to real flame and suggestions will be made to acquire similar effects.  Dancers need to bring a tray  or paper plate, and 3 unbreakable small dishes or paper plates and  2 or 3  votive candles in a glass container (like you see in restaurants).  We will learn lots of arm and hands patterns, balancing, some floor work and more. To finish off our class we will go to the restaurant by the beach and dance there and experience the beauty of  flames flickering on the shores of the Indian Ocean !  How much better can it get?

Double Veils -  Dancers and viewers are entranced by the beauty of swirling fabrics.  In this class, we will double our fun with 2 veils.  We will dance with both as one, separate, join them together, get between them and out, and make them create designs in the air and around us.  Bring 2 veils as similar as possible.

Shaaby - egyptian pop. Fun, funky and with a lot of attitude and a great sense of humour. Taught by Iman, a native Egyptian

Sword - learn the basics of balancing and dancing with a sword.

Zills - learn the basics of dancing with finger cymbals.

Saiidi - Folk dance from upper Egypt. Learn the typical rhythm and movements and a full choreogaphy using fun and untraditional moves. Note that the choreography is available on DVD; "Siri's choreographies Vol. 2".

Drum Solo - hot, fast paced, humoristic and with a lot of attitude. A sure winner at any performance. The shimmy technique class is a preparation for the choreography and open to all levels. The choreography class is for intermediate to advanced students. Note that the choreography is available on DVD; "Siri's choreographies Vol. 1".
